Faith Presbyterian Church 70th Anniversary April 24th 2016

Faith Presbyterian Church Programs

The Themus Spencer Learning Center was a non-profit (501)(c)(3), multi-cultural community base organization offering the opportunity for youth K-12th grades, college and seniors a chance to develop fundamental computer skills, using the latest technology running from 1996 through 2005. In 1994, Faith Presbyterian Church was selected as one of eight community sites in the City of Oakland to become a SMARTNet( Science, Math, And Real Technology) Community Partner, a program of the Chabot Space and Science Center. The program is for the collaboration of the community, public schools and science working together to raise the level of competence among our youth. Within a five or six block radius of Faith there are three public schools (Emerson Elementary, Carter Middle School (which is now Oakland International High School) and Oakland Technical High School)

Themus Spencer Center was housed at Faith Presbyterian Church on the corner of 49th Street and Webster Street, and provided service to all racial-ethnic groups in the surrounding Temescal neighborhood. The center provides a place for youth to attend as part of the growing problem in our society where students become involved in gangs after schools during the hours of 3 pm to 7 pm.

One of the goals of the center is to educate and encourage youth and adults about technology awareness by providing the basic computer skills to help support their goals of self-improvement and life long learning to help close the digital divide. The center's purpose was to build technology base programs in order to achieve higher levels of education in science and computer technology. And those seeking to enter or re-enter the workforce, or provide service to other non-profit community organizations such as community hospitals, convalescent homes, churches, libraries, etc.

Faith Angels Choir Sings "Tribute to Black History"

On 2nd Sunday our Faith Angels Choir sing as part of the music ministry team for Faith Presbyterian Church. On Sunday February  9th, 2015 we heard that our youth was in a serious car accident. And we quickly staring praying to God for protection over every one who was involved. The praise report was no one was hurt from the accident, including other drivers who were on the freeway. When the youth came to the church to sing that morning, they didn't have a time to prepare or warm up for their selections. But God was with them and is in the midst giving tribute to Black History Month.
